The Ellis Duo-Piano Competition (see details
below), open to all citizens of the United States, was made possible
originally by a legacy left by Annie Lou Ellis (Mrs. Edgar B.) of Birmingham,
Alabama, friend and benefactor of the National Federation of Music Clubs.
Additional legacies from Fay and John Abild of Davenport, Iowa, and Floride
Smith Dean of Belton, South Carolina, longtime supporters of the Federation,
make possible the New York Debut Concert for the first-place winners, and the
Abild American Music Award for the best performance of American Music. The
Ellis Competition will be held at Converse College, Spartanburg, South Carolina,
with the winners invited to perform in concert at the Biennial Convention of the
National Federation of Music Clubs. The National federation
will serve as the promotional agent in securing concerts for the Ellis winners
following the competition.
