Background Information

Clancy Newman, from Albany, New York, is a winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs Artist Award for Strings.  He began playing the 'cello at the age of six and, in May, 1999, graduated with a BA in English from Columbia University where he is a student in the exchange program with the Julliard School.

He has attended the Marlboro Music School and Festival, the New York Strings Seminar, the Meadowmount School for Strings, the Encore School for Strings, The Taos School of Music, and the Verbier Academy in Switzerland.

Mr. Newman has been the recipient of many musical honors and awards including the National Symphony Orchestra Young Soloists Competition; Julliard School 'Cello Competition; Juilliard Pre-College 'Cello Competition; National Society of Arts and Letters 'Cello Competition in Washington, D.C.; Australian National Youth Concerto Competition; Gold Medal for Strings at the Dandenong Youth Festival (Australia); and the Ithaca College High School Competition.

Solo performances with orchestra include the Bloomfield Symphony in New Jersey, the Lake George Symphony in New York, Juilliard Orchestra at the Lincoln Center in New York, and the Holyoke Civic Symphony in Massachusetts.

Mr. Newman previously studied with David Gibson, and is now a student of Joel Krosnick and Harvey Shapiro.
